JACO Employees’ Federal Credit Union began in 1961 when several employees of T. L. James & Company, Inc., in Ruston, Louisiana, saw a need for their fellow employees. They knew their employees would benefit by providing them with low cost loans and interest earned savings. This small group of men, together with T. L. James management, started a credit union and named it JACO Employees’ Federal Credit Union.
In January, 2000 the name of JACO Employees’ Federal Credit Union was changed to JACO Federal Credit Union. The Board of Directors elected to expand its membership and opened its charter to employees of other companies. Years later, JACO expanded their field of membership again. The Board of Directors offered membership to member’s immediate families (spouses, children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, their children, married children and their families).
JACO Federal Credit Union was created to help employees who worked hard, wanted to save money, or needed to borrow money for everyday living. This is still JACO’s motto today. We are here to serve all our member’s needs for now and for the future.

What Is a Credit Union
A Credit Union is a nonprofit co-operative financial institution that is owned and controlled by its members, through the election of a volunteer Board of Directors who are elected from the membership itself. The members have a common bond such as employment and/or family.
Credit Unions differ from a traditional financial institution in that the members who have accounts in the Credit Union are the Credit Union owners. Credit Unions strive to provide superior member services, provide a source of credit for its members and help its members save some of their earnings safely.
Jaco Federal Credit Union is chartered under federal law. Federally chartered credit unions are regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an independent agency of the U.S. Government. NCUA administers the federal insurance fund (NCUSIF) which covers all federal credit unions. No taxpayer money is used for regulating and overseeing federal credit unions, as all activities of NCUA and the NCUSIF are funded by credit unions.
The Board of Directors, elected by the members at the annual meeting, are responsible to the members for the operation of the Credit Union. The Board determines the operating policies; sets rates of interest on loans; declare dividends; appoints the Supervisory Committee, and employs and supervises the personnel who keep the records and manage the credit union office.
Credit Unions are not for profit – not for charity – but for service. A Credit Union will work for their memberships best interest.
Credit unions are restricted by federal law to serve only a defined and approved field of membership. You must be within Jaco’s field of membership or be a qualified relative of a member in order to open an account. Once you become a member of Jaco, you never have to terminate your membership.
ONCE A MEMBER, ALWAYS A MEMBER
